October 2024 Recap

01 November 2024

My first full month of the website is behind me now. For how often I would start blogs and let them peter out, this first full month has demonstrated that there is something here. I’m having fun collecting my thoughts and adding some content to the internet. Here’s everything that has changed in October.

Post Summary

I started the month with a small recap of September 2024. This is now the second time I’m doing this, so we might be starting a monthly tradition!

On the 5th, I announced The Retro Gaming Project - a collection of tidbits and information on some of my favorite games. It’s a separate section under the Projects but also has its own URL: retrogamingproject.net. During this month, I launched three games and a lot of neat content:

On the 13th, I did an analysis of my run streak. It has since been extended to 74 days. Immediately after making that post, I started to feel sick and tested positive for COVID for the first time ever. Despite some bad days, I was able to keep the streak alive. I would have felt foolish if I announced my streak and immediately had to end it.

Speaking about COVID, the post I did on the 18th talking about SAP Dashboards or Xcelsius was 100% inspired by a fever dream I had while sick. Why did I dream I was back at a job I haven’t been at in 6 years and working on a tool from a decade ago? I have no idea, but I was inspired to document the tool for posterity.

There was a break in the Formula 1 calendar, but over the last two weeks I watched and recapped two Grand Prix: United States and Mexico. Both races were exciting and there was a lot that happened. I still remember a lot of it and that is directly attributed to the recaps.

Finally, I wanted to document the dynamic nature of my Podcast Subscriptions. I haven’t taken a snapshot in the past, so there isn’t a lot of changes yet. This is my first snapshot and I’ll likely refer back to it in the future.

Website Changes

The Archives page was adjusted as I learned to work with the Liquid template language that Jekyll uses. Now the posts are split by month instead of one large list.

Finally, I updated my Fitness Logs page. COVID impacted some of the totals, but outside of that I worked really hard this month.

Tidbits and Miscellaneous Notes

Apple Intelligence finally launched with 18.1. I’ve played around with the Writing Tools. I do like the proof reading but wish it was available in more apps natively. The Siri interface looks awesome now, but I’m not finding that I use Siri for anything new. The AI erase is neat, but I don’t think I care that much to pull out random things from my photos. Let’s see how it continues to evolve.
