November 2024 Recap

01 December 2024

My first full month of the website is behind me now. For how often I would start blogs and let them peter out, this first full month has demonstrated that there is something here. I’m having fun collecting my thoughts and adding some content to the internet. Here’s everything that has changed in October.

This is now two full months into the journey of this website. Things are still fun and I’m enjoying myself. Not all the updates to the site are highlighted in the Archives so let’s go into what’s changed throughout November:

Post Summary

The month started with the October 2024 Recap.

We’re in the final stretch of the 2024 Formula 1 season. I recapped the Brazil Grand Prix and the Las Vegas Grand Prix. These races were very good for Max Verstappen as he had one of the most impressive drives in Brazil and then won the Driver’s Championship in Vegas.

November 2024 saw the end of this current election. It was a depressing result. I made a few posts related to worker’s rights and my post-election thoughts. It’s still hard to grasp with as the results don’t align with my values and hopes for the country. I still haven’t fully recovered but I will try to limit the feelings of being jaded. I can’t just ignore things, but I needed the remainder of November and likely the rest of this year to just get myself in a good spot before I go back to the fight. For a distraction, I wrote about a fun app called pure that I’m still using.

I spent a lot of time running this month. My run streak has continued to 103 days. I wrote an automated script to analyze my running log. It went through two versions (v2 and v1). It culminated with me running the fastest 5k of my life.

The Retro Gaming Project didn’t see too many updates, but I did add two magazine scans related to Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (Playstation).

Website Changes

I’ve been utilizing RSS a lot more after the election. One of the primary reasons was to limit the doom scrolling. I realized that I didn’t launch this site with an RSS feed. This has been rectified.

Finally, I updated my Fitness Logs page. There was one fewer day in November, but I kept things about the same as October.

Tidbits and Miscellaneous Notes

I’ve been using ChatGPT a lot more. One of the things that had been annoying me is a program that was launching when I started my Mac. I could not figure out what was triggering it to launch as it wasn’t listed in the Startup Items in System Settings. ChatGPT gave me suggestions to look at and it ended up being a plist file that was found in the Library folder. I don’t know why I didn’t think to look in there, but I’m finding the LLM-based chat bots are quite useful when it comes to that.

I’m doing a watch/re-watch of The X-Files right now. I’m on season 3. While watching episode 3 of the season, there is a scene in an arcade. The actors are clearly playing Virtua Fighter, but what struck me as bizarre is that the music that was playing was the Green Hill Zone music from Sonic the Hedgehog. Why? See it for yourself on Youtube.
